How to Decorate with Pantone’s 2014 Color of the Year

Emerald is out—Radiant Orchid is in. In case you haven’t heard, Pantone has named this interesting, warm shade of fuchsia with pink and purple undertones its color of the year. It’s a super bold, interesting color that can fit into a wide range of rooms. Let’s take a look at some of the best ways to incorporate this glam new color into your home:

  • Accessories. Because Radiant Orchid is a trendy color, it’s probably best not to make huge investments in the color, like painting whole rooms or opting for purple carpet (though we can make that happen!). Instead, use pops of this bold and beautiful color throughout your house. Think fuchsia throw pillow or Afghans, orchid candles, or a single accent wall. It can add visual interest and movement to an otherwise bland, neutral room.
  • Throw rugs. If you have a white, light gray or other neutral floor, don’t be afraid to spice them up with a gorgeous throw rug. Not only will it keep your toes warm, it’s also a great way to introduce color to a room. Let Radiant Orchid shine against lighter hardwoods and tiles to create a light and airy space.
  • Artwork. Here’s a great idea for adding Radiant Orchid artwork without breaking your art budget: go to an art craft supply store and buy several canvases that fit the size of your room. Take the Pantone number for Radiant Orchid (18-3224 TCX) to your paint store and have them mix you up a small can. Then, get creative! Paint the whole panel fuchsia for a super bold statement, or consider painting the top or bottom half of the canvas for a more subtle touch. Use a ruler to get straight lines and have some fun! You can even get the kids involved with this easy art project. Then, when fashion trends change, get another canvas and start all over again.
  • Curtains. Have a blah room? Try adding sumptuous fabrics in Radiant Orchid, and it will immediately become a lush and exotic oasis. Add simple curtain panels in Radiant Orchid—you can either make them yourself from the fabric store or find them online—and you’ll be amazed at the change in your space.

Even if Radiant Orchid isn’t your thing, apply these tips to any color you love. Using bright accent colors is a clever way to change up your room’s look without breaking the budget. Of course, if you are in the market for that Radiant Orchid carpet, give Tish Flooring a call at 879-TISH (8474).
