Bring Trends From New York Fashion Week to Your Home!

New York Fashion Week came and went quicker than we would have liked, but it left us feeling very excited for fall 2015. You might be wondering why we’re talking about fashion trends when we’re in the home flooring business, but a lot of the trends previewed at New York Fashion Week will transition into home décor. Here are some of our favorite trends from New York Fashion Week and how to incorporate them into your home right now!

Embellishment

Embellished jackets, gowns and skirts were heavily featured in the Carolina Herrera and Dennis Basso runway shows. Mixing rich, dark colors with embellishments like beads, jewels or feathers adds interest to any piece of clothing. You can accomplish the same look in your home by choosing smaller items to execute this trend. You don’t want to go overboard, so look for picture frames or accent pieces in darker colors with interesting embellishments or details. Bring visual interest to your dining room table by using dishes with bold patterns or embossed finishes. Go one step further and add an embellished table runner or vase for a look that is fashion forward and glamorous.

Texture

Texture was a big trend we noticed in multiple runway shows. Tory Burch and BCBG Max Azria showcased many looks featuring textured jackets, coats and dresses. So how can you incorporate this trend into your home décor? It’s easy! Look for antique rugs with fringe details or intricate patterns. This will play up the Moroccan patterns we saw on the runway. If you’re looking to switch up your flooring, look for carpet styles that mix different textures or carpet fibers together. For more information on textured carpeting, click here.

Jewel Tones

Sometimes designers will surprise us and showcase pastel colored jackets and coats for the fall and winter seasons, but this year there was a heavy focus on jewel tones. Luxe looking purples, greens and blues were heavily featured in the Cnythia Rowley and Nicole Miller runway shows. Implement this trend into your home by choosing beautiful, soft and luxurious carpeting in vibrant jewel tones for any room. A deep plum or jade colored carpet would look stunning in your master bedroom. Navy is a great color choice for carpet in your office or basement. If you’re not ready to commit to jewel-toned carpet, try incorporating smaller items like curtains or pillows into a room to see if you really love the color.
