About Us

Tish Flooring is an Indianapolis, Indiana company and was previously called Realty Wholesale Carpet.  Realty Wholesale Carpet was founded in 1992 by Fred Tishler.  In the early years, Fred worked by himself and he set out to do business with real estate professionals and property managers, those who he felt would appreciate his “low price, honest dealings” philosophy.  With his trademark quiet manner and quick-reply estimates, Realtors came to trust only Fred with their tenants, buyers and sellers.  Soon many of the city’s most high profile agents, property managers, developers and brokers began to use Realty Wholesale Carpet.

A legacy of solid bargains and personalized service has long been associated with Fred’s family.  In the mid 1800′s, Fred’s great-grandather Louis Kort opened the first specialty flooring store in Kentucky.  Louis sold Oriental rugs, oval braided rugs, window shades and “oil cloth” that later evolved to be known as linoleum.  At the turn of the century, Louis’s son Herman was “put on the road” after high school selling rugs and oil cloth up and down the Mississippi River.  That was when steamboats and paddle-wheelers were the main mode of transportation and a horse & cart were the only way to reach the small, out-of-the-way general stores of that era.  Fred’s father Mel began in the flooring industry with Grandfather Herman in 1949 and he plays a vital, guiding role at Tish Flooring to this day. Mel oversees the company’s installation and service operations and Harry, Fred’s brother, handles the marketing, merchandising, and commercial sides of the business.

Today, Tish Flooring sells, installs and services carpet, hardwood, and tile & stone products for both residential and commercial applications of all sizes throughout central Indiana.  The company continues to be known for setting evening or weekend appointments for the convenience of its customers, bringing an assortment of samples to their homes and offices and providing low, wholesale prices that consistently save its clients 20%, 30% and sometimes over 40% compared to the area’s ‘big box’ and home improvement stores.  The company’s across-the-board focus on personalized, high-quality service in all flooring categories has been publicly recognized by consumer groups and real estate companies including such distinctions as being presented the first-ever F.C. Tucker Company Company of the Year Award from a field of over one hundred vendors (2010) as well as Angie’s List A+ Super Service Awards (multiple years).
